THE LADY TIGRA The Lady Tigra was one of the original members of L’Trimm–one of hip-hop’s earliest, sassiest, and most influential female duos (with fellow rapper Bunny D). The L’Trimm sound influenced everyone from Peaches to Fannypack to Gwen Stefani. The girls busted out of the Miami Bass movement and are best known for the infectious “Cars That Go Boom,” an ode to sub-woofers. The bouncy rap glorified the sub-woofer culture and snuck onto the Billboard charts. Having three albums recorded before their 21st birthdays, L’Trimm was voted by Source Magazine as “Hip-Hop Goddesses.” After disappearing from the music scene, The Lady Tigra returns with a new album under her arm Please Mr. Boombox and control of her music.

You thought you liked electro - but after listening to Vyncent Flaw you realized all those beats you were bumpin were really just disco cuts with synth basslines. Case and point - these guys are raw, in your face electro…. with anime haircuts to boot. There are a slew of entertaining videos for you to waste your time on as well.

 

So maybe you’ve heard of these guys, maybe you haven’t.  All I know is that they have been on every playlist I’ve  put together in the last few months.  The Bloody Beetroots, who recently signed to indie giant DIM MAK, have only been together since 2007, and have already brought some serious bangers to the table.  With their signature electro/punk style, they are sure to be around for some time, so check’em!

Amongst the numerous reasons for my Coachella jealousy is this band, Black Kids. They’re currently touring with Cut Copy for the release of their upcoming album dropping July 7, 2008. The Twelves has a ill [obviously] remix of their single “I’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you.” Black Kids - im not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you (The Twelves Rmx)

The cult followed Portishead dropped their fourth album today, and just in time is a mad remix from Exillon. Singer Beth Gibbons’ voice sends chills down my spine - I love it. So as you can probable tell we are big fans of Ed Banger, but really if your not, you should be. The new compilation coming out sounds like it should once again be sure to please even the most critical of electro fans.
